CatDV Server
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR SERVER 9 USERS. CatDV Server 10 is a major software release and should be thoroughly tested with your workflows in a test environment before upgrading your production environment. If you could like development licenses for testing prior to upgrading please contact us. Please also ensure that all of your desktop clients have been upgraded to version 13 of the desktop client to avoid data incompatibility issues. If you’re not using Server 9 you can download the latest version of CatDV Server 7 or 6 from the older software versions section below. To use Server 6.10 you require a license purchased after December 2014 or to be under a current software maintenance agreement. Please note that you can use either the CatDV Desktop Client or a third-party application to verify the files MD5 checksum.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR ARCHIVE PLUGIN USERS WHEN UPGRADING.
Most CatDV archive plugins now work with Server 10. Azure, Backblaze, and Soda work with the existing plugins. Black Pearl and S3 work with Server 10 using the latest archive plugin release. Object Matrix, Google Cloud, IBM Cleversafe are still in progress.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR WORKGROUP SERVER USERS.
Please note that Workgroup Server has been discontinued, the latest supported version is 7.4.3, links below. Please contact support@catdv.com for special commercials terms to migrate to Enterprise Server.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION FOR SERVER 6 USERS:
CatDV Server 7 and onwards stores its metadata in a different way from previous versions or CatDV Server. The upgrade process must, therefore, migrate your data from the old format to the new format. This step cannot be undone so it is vital that your data is properly backed up before you start in case it becomes necessary to roll back your installation. Please make sure you read the information on the following link before upgrading more information on Server 7 upgrade.

CatDV Enterprise Or Pegasus Server
The CatDV Server software is compatible with most common server machine configurations. A typical installation will require:
- Linux Centos/Rocky 8/Redhat 8 , Mac OS X, Unix, or Windows PC running Windows 10/11, or Windows Server 2012, 2016, 2019 or 2022
- 8GB memory (16GB or more recommended)
- Java 11 (Linux Only)
- Fast SSD disk is highly recommended
To access the CatDV web client we recommend Google Chrome, some features may be limited on other browsers
- *CatDV Server including CatDV Web Server*
- 2 x 4 core, Intel Xeon processors
- 32 – 64 GB RAM
- 2 x 512 GB or larger SSD hard drives with NVMe, ideally mirrored for redundancy
- 10 GbE network
CatDV Server works with a number of common SQL database products. The included open-source H2 database is suitable for testing & evaluation only. For production databases, CatDV Server requires MySQL 5.7 or 8 (with the requirement that the legacy password encryption method be selected at the time of install) or Maria DB 10.4 or newer.
Additionally on Windows, Microsoft SQL Server 2012 or newer is supported.
We can provide demo licenses to allow you to perform test installations on your hardware and fully evaluate the software prior to making a purchase.
CatDV Web Client
CatDV’s 3.x browser client has been optimised for tablets and desktop browsers, across the major operating systems and mobile platforms. The core CatDV user experience is available on android and iOS mobile phones. Some capabilities on smaller screens may operate differently based on display size and other platform restrictions”
The CatDV Adobe Panel
The Adobe Panel needs Premiere CC or newer and also supports Photoshop, Illustrator, After Effects or InDesign
Typical CatDV Hardware Configuration
There is no such thing as a typical CatDV system: CatDV operates well for individuals, small workgroups up to the world’s largest organisations managing many millions of assets. Nonetheless we are often ask what a typical hardware set up might look like for a CatDV system.
Small systems can operate well using 2 x top specification mac minis: with SSD and as much RAM and processor as can be afforded / specified. One mac mini would run the CatDV server, and one the Worker.
For a mid-sized CatDV system, offering more resilience and power, the following specifications are a good starting point.
CatDV Server including CatDV Web Server
2 x 4 core, Intel Xeon processors
32 – 64 GB RAM (for large Databases additional RAM helps performance)
2 x 512 GB or larger SSD hard drives, mirrored for redundancy (or using RAID 5 / 6)
10 GbE network
CatDV Worker Node
CatDV Workers can perform many functions, so hardware specifications vary widely between deployments.
For heavy duty ingest, transcode, and / or proxy creation, with up to 8 CatDV Worker Nodes, the configuration above (for the ‘typical’ Server) is suitable.
Or, where cost is more of an issue a Worker could be specified:
Latest intel i7 processor or Equivalent
16 – 64 GB RAM
256 GB or larger SSD hard drive
1 – 10 GbE depending on the rate of ingest, transcoding and media distribution
Our network of experience partners, integrators and resellers can provide more specific information for a CatDV deployment.
